are these guys reef safe or is it hit and miss for those that do not know these are Tinkeri Butterflies

Personal experience here:

I kept one for a year in a FO system and transferred him to my reef. Fish was great with SPS, zoos and tank mates. They do have a tase for LPS though, so if you have those in the tank you will have to choose either the corals or the butterfly. Mine was very hardy (typical for the species) and was full grown @ about 5 inches. We lost him (along with 90% of the other fish) to a bacterial infection that killed too fast to cure.

If you must keep a butterfly in a reef, this is the one (much nicer colors IMO than its cousin the Declavis).

It ate everything I fed to it. Mostly mysis, Formula 1 and 2 frozen, frozen angel formula, Lifeline green, Brineshrimp Plus, PrimeReef and it even ate flake foods such as Omega and flake cyclopese. Not picky at all.
