Taking DT Live!

Hi guys,

It has been a long road as I'm trying to not make any of the mistakes usually attributed to cutting corners. I've been living vicariously through all of you for years now and am almost ready to fill my DT. A real goal in this process has been to spend my research time in the front rather than in a panicky scramble after the fact. Nothing is bulletproof but I've really been trying to do everything I can to prevent that "I wish I woulda..." moment.

My fish have been in QT for months although there are two fish I'm still trying to track down and will begin my final 12 week QT when the last fish are acquired.

I've had RealReef Rock in a heated and circulated tank for months as well being held at 1.025 and topped off with RODI. The only thing I didn't think to do was "feed" the bacteria that came with the RealReef Rock. Because it has been fallow for all this time should I just consider it dry and plan on a full cycle?

My thought was to fill the DT with Aragavive Reef Flakes and RealReef Rock, wait for the spike, then add all my inverts, coral and a clam while my fish stay in QT for a full 12 weeks. This would ensure there is no stages of ich hitchhiking on any of the inverts, coral, clam ect. My only fear is having to target feed the corals and clam as the invert waste probably won't be enough.

The last thing I'm struggling with is treating my fish in a hospital tank as I've been closely observing them in QT for months and they've shown zero issues. The people I've talked to who employ TTM seem to suggest it can really stress the fish out and I have a few jumpy fish with exceptional coloration for species that I don't want to lose (actually have been emotionally attached to all of them for quite sometime). All of the fish have been from DD except 2 that came from LiveAquaria. Should I just prazi them before introducing to DT?

Do you guys think I am on the right track or do I have some rethinking to do?

Thank you to all who honestly and accurately share your successes and failures thus advancing this unbelievable lifestyle.

Too wordy for replies?

If I've had manufactured live rock at 78 degrees/ 1.025 sg with no inhabitants for a few months do I need to start a complete cycle when I put it in my DT?

Should I treat fish that have been in BB QT for two months showing no signs or issues? If so treat with what?

Thanks so much

TTM is what I use I put all my fish through formalin bath first, then TTM, Prazipro on second and 4 transfer. Then into qt for observation. I may switch it around using Ick shield during Ttm for instance where I think velvet/Brook might be possibility.
