Would this lens work for tight close ups? Polyps and such??

Still trying to learn what all this means.....

Tamron 70-300mm Macro Zoom Lens

This 70-300mm telephoto lens is the definitive lightweight, compact telephoto zoom with a macro magnification ratio of 1:2 (1/2 life size) at the 300mm setting -- ideal for shooting subjects that are difficult to approach such as sporting and theatrical events.

The lens also features special effects such as the capability to provide beautifully blurred backgrounds to highlight the main subject in portraiture, or "compression effects" that make the most of the telephoto lens. By switching to macro mode, subjects as close as 0.95m can be shot within the focal range of 180-300mm, for true macro photography. The optical system incorporates a LD (Low Dispersion) lens, resulting in clear sharp images free of chromatic aberration.

1:2 magnification is not bad at all- 'true' macro is 1:1 but half that is still pretty good, especially considering how long the lens is. You could add extension tubes to get even closer if you wanted to.
When you say "polyps and such" it makes me think you may want to get closer than 1:2 so i'd recommend going to a camera store and playing with that lens if you can. Or maybe you can find some sample pics to give you an idea of what the pics will look like at half life-size.

I had a Tamron 70-300 macro, I am not sure if it had LD glass, but it was a good lens 70-200mm, but past 200mm the pictures were starting to get soft and not have the vibrancy that it had below there.

For the price a good lens and versatile, but I wish I had the cash for a canon 100m macro...
