tan flow - power heads

I'm looking for suggestions on placing my power heads/pumps in my tank for water flow.

I though I'd read somewhere on this list that there was a website that had suggestions. I just don't like what I've got going and if I'm going to make changes I'd like some idea of what to change it to.

My tank is a standard 55 gal, Live rock along the back wall, pretty boring but it looks nice I just seem to have/need better flow in the tank.

Thanks,
Brad

One left, one right sides, then one back center left, one back center right, can't miss anything with that set up. Hydors would do just nicely.

125G,

OK one left and right - center? top bottom?
Back center left/right? High/low

I'm very visual but can see to many places to put these in my tank.

Left and right sides, upper ish towards back, pointing towards center front. Back ones even them out across the back, pointing oppositeor towards each other, upper ish across the back. Now, if you go with the 1200gph ones, you will only need the side flow, as that will be plenty. If you use the 850gph(#3), use them on the sides and the #2's on the back. :)

As long as you dont have any dead spots in your tank where detrious can build up, then you are good to go. You can add more powerheads till your corals seem to be in the right amount of flow and thats it.

125g - thanks I can see that.

RotaryGeek - how does one see dead spots - I've seen it in smoke or if I put a dye in the water but not sure that would be good for a tank. Do you just wait to see if there is a build up then move things around?

Everyone - How about behind the rocks?

Most power heads work off of sucking water through them, if you hide them in rocks you will not get the full amount of flow they can provide. And as for dead spots. Man, I have 3400gph in my tank, and still have one spot that drives me nuts.
