Tanaka's Pygmy Wrasse

Well, my yellow banded just let's everything slide. The watchman and gramma will attempt their posturing when he goes near their caves, and he just curls his body, slides on by like it never happened. I do not have anything like a cherub angel though. Like I said before, the possum never stops moving, in and out and around the rocks. So, if this type of behavior typically annoys the angel, then I would potentially have some concerns.

Fwiw it's worth I haven't had issues with Pygmy Angels. Dunno why the larger anthias made the wetmorellas shy and I don't have any competing wrasses, so it may vary with the fish. In your case I would feel uneasy with the hog, especially long term.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

The hog is my most passive fish. My Cherub angel is an ahole extreme :hammer: The only fish he really bothers now is my McCosker's wrasse and my Midas blenny helps him out.

Everyone has said about the Yellow candy hog fish become aggressive but mine is really a model citizen, at least for now, I've only had him about a month. He is more comfortable with my tank and explores all over it daily as well does the Cherub. They get along fine

Lately my Mocha Clowns are fighting among each other I think it's getting to the stage of lovers quarrel before any breeding actually begins. Hard to believe as they're just over a year old I believe. I guess time will tell on that.

Other than the clowns to each other aggression and the occasional chase the McCosker by the Cherub my tank is peaceful.

I really like the small wrasses and just thinking out loud about maybe getting one.

Obviously hindsight is 20/20, but adding one much earlier would've been the way to go. That hogfish may just be waiting for new additions to show his nasty side. Are you considering any other fish besides the possums?

I was kind of considering a Starcki damsel, but it was pointed out to me they are the same colors as my Cherub angel, so I agree with that, so looking for one more fish that will be the final. If I had known Cherub's were so aggressive he would have been last.

What about one of the ORA dottybacks? They have some pretty cool looking ones. They can probably hold their own a bit better than a peaceful little possum.

LOL Dottybacks are the devil fish from hell. I'll never own another one, too many bad memories from them many years ago.

Well, you could try the possum wrasse and hope your angel is ok with him. They do swim in a way that is not threatening to other fish. It's so smooth. But I don't know how much of a terrorist that cherub is.

Nina. It's all your fault.

I went into the LFS today and they had a Yellow-Bellied Possum Wrasse. You know what happened next. I blame you and expect to see a check in the mail very soon.

:love2:

I love my possum, neat little fish. You'll really enjoy it once it settles in!!

Hi Michelle,

I've wanted one for a while, but none of my LFS gets them in very often. This is the first one that I've seen in many years.

jerry, you can't blame me. i was a total failure with these wrasses. the first one lasted a few days, found it stuck to a power head. the second one was 2 extra days in transit thanks to UPS and was doa. i didn't even try a third one.

i hope yours does well but i think you should send me a check!

Okay, I'll send Kanistukian Dollars, so that'll work out to aboot two fiddy USD.

Sure wish I could make it to MA next month.

i have 2 of each species.... nigropinnata, tanakai and the albofasciata aswell ... my local shopowner picked them up at the wholesale...
I love the little guys and they are swimming with surgeon, butterfly, and some cirrhilabrus sp. paracheilinus and leopard together...

they take artemia, mysis and ocean plancton from fauna marin as food.
My tank is a 129 gallon.
