tang and butterfly

I need some opinions on pairing a yellw tang with a butterfly fish in a 92 gallon reef tank. I am thinking about eather a longnose or a copperband. The tang has been in the tank for a while. Has any one ever tried pairing these two together? Should I chance it. I need some thoughts on this

If you are going with a butterfly then I would go with the copperband. IMO it is the hardier of the two, even though it is still touchy. You will have to keep your eyes out for either one if you have LPS or Clams. They can pick.

I think an established YT is going to pose a real threat to another similar sized fish. I'd remove the tang until the bf has become established and then re-introduce the tang. I've had a purple tang thrash a new butterfly. IME, the long nose is the hardier of the two. CB bf's are touchy and often don't acclimate well.

in my opionion the copper band and way harder to keep than a long nose. Copper bands require alot better water quailty also. They are picker eaters to than yellow long nose. I have a copper band, but have lucked out so far. If you can handle the care of the copper band i love them. One last thing most i have been around usually have to be spot feed, but they cant compete with tangs for food. just my 02 cents.

My CBB (RIP) used to pick at my clams and sometimes at the feather dusters, but never at my corals. The tang never touched anything, except sometimes chase the CBB around.

The CBB survived in the tank for almost 5 months and I think died from starvation. It would only come to eat live black worms, which I just couldn't feed every day. If I ever get a CBB again, I'd make sure it eats regular frozen fish food at the store.

the longnose is byfar easier to keep but its gonna be hard to mix with the tang i would pull the tang and let the butterfly get established then reintroduce the tang

I had a yellow tang in my tank for at least a year before I added my Copper banded butterfly about six months ago. They been living in perfect harmony.

We have a yellow longnose and a Tomini tang that are mutualy indifferent towards each other. They were introduced at the same time.

I've had a copperband for over 6 months with a purple tang, sailfin tang, and blue regal tang. I made the mistake on my first try of impatiently taking home the copperband before it ate, and it never did, but after learning that lesson, I waited until my LFS had one in a tank with several others that they "weaned" onto mysis. It eats great and has never touched any clams, LPS, SPS, gorgonians, sponges, or others - except for ridding my tank of aiptasia, eating the small ones and stopping the multiplication while I had to Joe's Juice the big ones.
