Tang/Fish compatability

Looking for comments on either of the following for reduction of filamentous algae (green and red):

1. I have a 4 inch Kole Tang - add a small 1-2 inch yellow tang, compatability issues? Would the size difference help? I know the yellow will eat the red (controlled it in a previous tank)

2. Other option instead of a yellow tang is another type of algae eater - looking for suggestions that won't compete with the film type algae that the Kole is eating.

Thanks, Chris

I'll be honest, my Tangs don't do much about algae. They graze here and there, but the best way to rid your tank IME is with snails (like confooseld said) or an algae Blenny (or both).

Lawnmower blennies are great until they realize that frozen foods and nori taste better than hair algae
Mine kept the tank clean for about 6 months and then one day he decided to stop eating hair algae and only eats nori and frozen foods.
But if you decide to get one, your Kole tang might not like the blenny.
My Kole tang doesn't bother anyone else but the blenny. They don't get along that well.

i have a 55 gallon with a yellow tang with liek 90 pounds of live rock, um and soon a blue tang, also i kept a purple and a vladimir (sp?) tang in the 55 also, my freind kept a lopezi in a 25

Vlamingii tangs grow 60cm (or 24" long). You kept a 2' fish in a 4' tank? With two other tangs?

And your friend kept a 2' fish in a 2' tank?!

They should be compatible. I was looking at a similar set up with the Kole and Yellow and they have different shapes/color and most of my research says you'll be fine. Anyone have both and have an opinion?

Me thinks someone needs to read the sticky on the first page ("What Tang for my 30 gallon"). For a Nano I would recommend either a Powerblue or Sohal Tang.
