Tang for 120?

Just wanted to hear what you all think would be a good choice of tangs for a 120g (48" x 24" x 24"). I was thinking maybe a single Powder Blue, or a Hippo and Kole Tang. Not sure yet.

TIA

Kole. Check out scopas, and tominis too. I think the powder won't do well until the tank is mature (6 or 12 months). And the tang police will bust your chops about the hippo cause they can get huge. I have seen them in much smaller tanks, but ultimately the fish will out grow it and you'll have a dilemma on your hands.

If I did decide to do the PBT, it would be the last fish added to the tank. Which, I imagine, would be after no less than 6-7 months.

And believe me, the tang police squad is the last thing I want on my butt!

Good man.

Seriously, check out Tomini tangs. I had a kole way back when and loved it, but alas, he met an early demise.

Now I have a tomini. Same behaviours. Constantly cleaning the rocks and glass. Beautiful bronze color with flame orange fins and white tips. Awesome fish. Perfect for a 120.

i personally had three tangs in a 100g. they all did fine and never fought. it was a naso, hippo, and a yellow tang.

I'm not the tang police. I had a purple, kole, and a sailfin in a 72, but I knew (had it in a spare room) I was moving up to a 180. Eventually particular tangs will get too big. Fighting may not be the issue, but some tangs need more swimming space once they reach a certain size. In many instances, a longer tank (6 foot vs 4 foot) is better regardless of gallons because they need the open stretches for swimming. If this is not provided, they will ultimately not thrive. There are always exceptions, I'm just speaking in generalities.

I think we should do our fishes the favor of providing the proper environment for them to thrive. Not just get em cause they're pretty. I'm not saying anything against you snguyen. I'm exposing myself for past mistakes and things I took for granted only to suffer loss later.

It's curious that you say you HAD those fish. What happened to them?

.........oh man..... I may have just applied to the tang police accademy with this one.......

I've always like the Tomini Tangs, just not as much as the PBTs or the Koles.

I had a large (4-5") Kole tang a while back in my 75g. I bought it when it was sick for about $10 in hopes that I could save it. Unfortunately, the poor guy didn't make it. I love the way they act and look, so I might think about getting another.

As for other tank-mates, I was thinking:

1 Genicanthus Angel - not sure what species
1 Snowflake Moray Eel - from my 75g. had him for 1+ yrs
1 Royal Gramma
1 Tailspot Blenny
2 Perc Clowns
1 Green Mandarin
2-4 Lyretail Anthias

Overstocked?

Will that snowflake bother any other fishes????

Not sure about the angel. But other than that, I'd say you'd be ok in a 120.

Currently, the Snowflake is about 14". In the tank with him, I have a Yellow Tang and 3 Peppermint Shrimp. He doesn't bother the shrimp at all and actually lets them clean him on occasions, so I doubt he will bother any small fish. Let's hope not at least.

As for the angel, I'm leaning towards a Watanabei, male or female.
