I was at the LFS and they had a blue tang that was doing on but had a spot of ick. So i asked the guy about ti and they gave me him for cheap. From what i read it can be cured easily. I got a qt tank put some pvc pipe for hiding . I set the salt same as my main and temp the same. I put the tang in and he was swimming around franticly.

He has calmed down now but his color is going away and he is getting covered with ick. I rased the temp slowly and added some medicen but does not seem to be getting better. Color is going away faster.

Should i try a fw dip?

What else should i do. I know he would not have made it in lfs but i wanted to try and help him.

He is a awsome looking fish. PLEASE HELP

I dont have any copper.

Is he to far gone.

Mike

In order for me to help you, please answer the following questions.

1. How are you treating the ich right now?
2. How long have you had the fish?
3. What is your salinity?
4. How is your water (water parameters)?
5. How large is your QT?
6. What is the length of the Tang?

I have him in a QT with a little ofwardley's ick away ( i understand this can only kill them when they are off the fish)
2. How long have you had the fish?
less the 24 hours
3. What is your salinity?
.023
4. How is your water (water parameters)?
Everything looks good.
5. How large is your QT?
10g ( going to do PWC everyday.
6. What is the length of the Tang?
2.5 inch

I have rased the temp a little 82-84 as i read this will help.

Please let me know

Mike

also with hyposalinity

I have read people raseing the sal. and i have heard people lowering it. Which way should i go and what should be the number i am going to. I understand you do this as a slow prosses

Thanks

Mike

how covered is covered? Take picture for us.

I had a yellow tang covered in black ich. I did a copper treatment for 5 days and steralized the main tank with a UV

he has not been in my main tank yet. I am at work atm but when i go home i will take a pic or 2. He looks like he is doing better. Some of his color seemed to comeback. I have also read about garlic and soaking the food in it. Is this regular garlic or diffrent.

( i have not feed him yets. I have read that under 24 hours in a tank you should not feed)

I hope he eats.

Thanks for the info.

Mike

I would try to go ahead and feed- just keep an eye on water quality.

Garlic is an extract that you can buy at a higher end fish store.

Its called "Kent Garlic Extreme"

Read the directions on that to make sure you dont use too much.

You can not see the ick on these pics sorry it is hard to get him he keeps hiding. I took out all the pvc pipe so i could get some kind of picture. I put some food in (flakes) and heed did not seem to want anything to do with it. ( i dont have the garlic stuff yet) Should i get it.

(sorry for the pictures so big i have to get back to work.)

Please let me know what is should do next. I will try to get better pictures in a bit.

what are you trying to feed him?

Im not positive- but I think most tangs eat formula 2 or seaweed (nori) I had to buy about 30 dollars of food before I found something he would eat.

Keep trying to get him to eat-

I was trying formula 2 ( and just to try 1) I will have to get seeweed

should i lower ore add some salt?

Or let him be?

Ive nevered played with the salinity. Id get advice from others about that.

I had 1.025 salinity and 82 degrees in my QT with copper- my tang lived and is ich free.

ok.. i got some seaweed and banded it to one of the pvc pipes. i also got some copper and put in 1/2 a dose ( was told to do it over 2 days.)

Thanks for all the info i will keep you posted.

I hope he startes to eat. What is the next step for the food?

Mike

I got pellets, flakes, more pellets, different types of seaweed---

I got mine to eat spinach repetitavely. Not the best food- but at least he didnt starve. Im weening him onto nori now.

It is very important that your tang gets the proper nutrients. It's amazing what a good diet will do for him! Nori is a good source of nutrients. You might want to try a nutrient suplement also. I soak my nori in a product called gel-tek. It provides essential nutrients and helps boost the immune system. I also feed my tang Emerald Entree and Marine Cuisine. Brine shrimp and flake food can be used as a snack, but should not make up the majority of his diet.

did not notice nori at lfs. Is this commonly sold? or is it something i should ordor online?

Again what is the best way of getting mysis shrimp.

I do appreciate all your help.

Hyposalinity is 1.009

That will kill the ick but it has to be that low. Much lower can be hard on the fish so it needs to be exactly 1.009

Measure with a refractometer not a swing arm or other type of hydrometer.
