So, my father always wanted to keep some kind of tang in my aquarium. I already said to him that my tank is too small for any species of tang. He still wants it tho.... So, I have a question. CAN I KEEP ANY SPECIES OF TANG IN A 8 GALLON TANK WITH A 5 GALLON SUMP? Maybye any suggestions on fish that looks like tang and can live ant thrive in my tank?

P.S. : No, I am not on any type of drugs okay, lol....

I forgot to tell you that the tang will be there for like 6 months until I get a new 75G tank. Will that be fine? Or any species of fish that looks similar to tang?

No. Unless you simply want to abuse and torture a fish.

Also, don't buy fish with the plan of getting a bigger tank. 6 months easily turns into a year, which turns into never. Plus, there aren't any tangs suitable for a 75, anyway.

You gotta basically make him understand that it is just a ridiculous question. Like keeping a bull elephant in your kitchen. Or having him live in a broom closet.

Just tell your dad, "No". If he asks "Why?" Say, "Because I said so."

Seems like your relationship dynamic is reversed.

I can't think of any. Even if you said any fish any shape, I would still be hesitant. Is there any way you can go larger on the box?

I'm going to build a 75 Gal, It'll probably be done in around 6 months (Cuz I'm still a Junior High Student lol).

No on the tang for sure. But you already know that.

As far as other fish, that's pretty much a no also. Two very small fish would be overstocking that tank, one would be about it. Almost any damsel, maybe a dart fish, or cardinal fish. But definitely nothing thats even slightly similar to a tang.

Like some one else said, tell your dad that he can have the YT. You'll put it in the new tank. When he asks what new tank, explain to him the benefits of a larger tank. How this would be good for the family, how he could even get 2 tangs (if the tank size is big enough), a whole bunch of other fish, corals, and how this would be so relaxing for him to watch after coming home from work.

Then ask him for the money... lol

Ok, Grasshopper, so here's what you do. Work on the single most important skill you'll need as a successful reefkeeper: patience.
Can you start? Absolutely. That little 8 will even give you a chance to do a cycle and deal with some startup issues that you'll see again in the 75. But you'll start the 75 with some cycled rock and sand, and maybe even a couple shrimp and a fish (I recommend a goby)....
