Tang Life Expectancy

My sohal tang has been lethargic lately and showing signs of deteriorating health, when hes usually very active. I have had the fish for 15 years, it was also pretty good size when I got it about 6". All the other fish in the tank are fine. Only fish added recently was a broomtail wrasse half his size about a month ago. No signs of aggression from him, and the sohal has always been the most aggressive fish in the tank.

My best guess would be that its dying of old age, but I'm not sure how long they typically live.

15 yrs is a long life for fish. I believe some angels live to be 20+ so I would guess that tangs, especially large tangs would live somewhere close to that. If it is "all of a sudden" seems like that would be the case but you did mention he new addition. Was the wrasse QTed?

Nikon how's that big tang doing?

He is doing great. Currently at the telus world of science in edmonton in our 11 foot 760g tank. ( which is still too small :) ) probably gained another half inch or so since last yr when we brought him out.

I personally have a yellow tang that is over 10 yrs old, doesnt look it though lol.

I think you should be very proud of 15 years. That's agreat!

x2...I have my PBT for 15 years now also...it just means we practiced good husbandry and met the needs of our fish...you purchased it and it was already 6" so it's older than 15..so is mine, but 15 is not that unheard of for larger fish and clowns...

I agree completely with this, but also want to say that if in fact the tang is dying after 15 years, my condolences. That would be tough for me, but obviously you provided it a good home for much of its life. Hats off to you, may your success continue with similar results for your other tank inhabitants. Thanks for sharing,
Scott
