I have a 135 gal.....and in it I have:

A Sailfin Tang

A Green Chromis

A Blue Damsel

A Cherub Angel

A CB Shrimp.....

I will be adding very soon....

A Flasher Wrasse

A Royal Gramma

Several more Green Chromis

and now for the question....What other tangs can I put in with this group that will be reef safe and won't kill each other....?

I like the Powder Blue....How hard are they to keep?

I like the Yellow Tang ? If so...how many can I put in there ?

The Purple Tang (with the yellow tail)...?

Tang folks.....Talk to me ! ! !

I can see the Yellow and Purple tang (either/or) fighting with the Sailfin as they will be similarly shaped fish.

Powder Blue tangs like many tangs need good water quality and a stess free environment. The result to stress would be an ich breakout.

1st off dont go crazy and put 4 or 5 tangs in there... you alredy have one.. i would think that 3 more would more than max you out... i have 6 in my 300 and i doubt that i will put anymore in...

OK.......Could I add a NASO tang ?

No they will get to big.. I would go with either the powder blue tang or hippo tang...

powder brown and blue probably have the same temperament but i dont think your sailfin will like another tang added either way. it will also depend on the size of your sailfin now. i know mine didnt really like it when i added a powder blue they fought for a while but mellowed out eventually (hopefully) but my powder blue would go and get the sailfin to fight him everyonce in a while.

A better bet would be the Kole tang (Ctenochaetus strigosus). Not only are they in a separate genus and have a different body shape/color, but they also focus on entirely different forms of algae and other food sources than those of the sailfin.

My Sailfin is mmmmmm...without him showing off and flexing for me....his body only, minus the fins, is about 3 inches tall and 3 inches long....yeah that's about right !

I have had two sailfins (Red Sea desjardinii variety). The first I had in with a purple and a yellow, and he never fought with anyone (the yellow and purple fought like devils for two days and then gave up and became "friends.") After Wilma took them out, I had another sailfin who really took exception to most everything when I added it. He terrorized a Golden Angel and made it stay in one corner of the tank, where it eventually died. I added a small blue hippo and he didn't like that at all, but the hippo just got out of the way and ignored him, and eventually the sailfin mellowed out.

Generally speaking if someone were to ask about a sailfin and a purple or yellow, I would say go for it if you have enough space and you're adding them all at once. Given that your sailfin already thinks he's top dog, its a little more risky.

This is my experience and I have a 7' x 2' wide tank:

I added a 7"+Red Sea sailfin first. Then I added a 3" purple tang. Then, I added a 3" powder blue. I guess I was lucky but no issues with any of the fish. They all hang out together and occassionally, the two smaller tangs even fight for food with the larger sailfin. I guess I am just lucky. Love those tangs though.
