Tang with skin peeling off, pics and video within

Over the past few weeks, my tang has turned from perfect to looking like this. I've taken carbon offline and fed with Metro laced food for about 7 days but nothing seems to have helped. The tank is about 4 months old, every single thing that has been put in the tank has gone thru QT that included tank transfer and Prazi.

Any ideas? It stopped eating pellets but still gulps down nori and frozen food daily. I noticed today my Potters seems to have a little of the same skin symptoms around it's face but all other fish look perfect.

Tank transfer eliminates cryptocaryon irritans and prazi should eliminate flukes. When was this fish introduced?

It was put in the display about 6 weeks ago. I first thought hole in the head but it got plenty of metro in it's food with no improvement. I know HLLE is similar but the lateral line is fine on this fish and the way this disease has attacked the fins is not like what I've seen of HLLE.

My best guess is you are dealing with a bacterial infection of some sort. Probably gram positive; as gram negative would likely have set in while the fish was still in QT.

In-tank treatment options consist of soaking the food in vitamin supplements (to boost the immune system), and running a UV (to lower the overall number of bacterium in the water column).

QT treatment would be the more aggressive approach and consist of antibiotics treatment (i.e. erythromycin, Furan-2, etc.)

I agree. The fish doesn't show any of the classic symptoms of most parasites. Fish that look like this are often, but not always, impossible to save.

Thanks both of you for the opinions, this is frustrating to deal with. Any recommendation on a med I can mix with food and feed in tank? I only have a few zoa frags and no inverts in the tank at the moment.

Dr. G's makes a antibacterial frozen food. Never tried it before, but might be worth a shot if you're planning on treating in-tank. Other than that, vitamin supplements...
