Hello,

I received a tang from a friend. It hasn't eaten for 3 weeks until I got it and started getting it to eat. I noticed that it only eats seaweed and not willing to eat anything else. Also, no matter how much it eats, it does not get fat. Could it be an internal parasite? What meds can I use?

I'm pretty sure that if your tang didn't eat for three weeks, it would have been dead. Tangs are known to have a veggi diet. Seaweed is good for them. Also try Romanian lettuce. What have you tried feeding it aside from the seaweed?

I tried cyclops (frozen), mysis, live brine, brine with spir, flakes, spectrum, garlic mixture, etc. It didn't touch anything. It only wants to eat seaweed; however, it doesn't get fat. The stomach is still pinched and it looks weak. It kept getting sucked in by a powerhead, which I caught right away without it getting hurt too badly.

Odd, my tangs go nuts for all the food you have listed. Could there be anything in the tank stressing him out? Also, was he acclimated correctly? Do your other fish eat everything you put in the tank? Thats how my tangs started to eat flake. By mimicing the other fish

I tried placing it with other fish. It didn't eat until I placed it alone. It only eats seaweed and nothing else.

I got the fish from a friend to see if I could nurse it back to health. It wasn't eating for 3 weeks in his tank. I got it to eat seaweed in my tank.
