tangs for a 265gallon

I have the same tank and currently house (in order of introduction) a regal/hippo, yellow, purple, Desjardini Sailfin, and Achilles. Hippo is the largest at about 7 inches, though the Sailfin is catching up. Latter is the only one that may outgrow the tank. I also have a Naso in QT and may also add a chevron down the road.

All get along reasonably well, though it took a while before the yellow and purple stopped ripping up each others fins. Hippo ignores them all. Sailfin gets left alone, maybe because the others all realize it's going to outgrow them all. Achilles just spends it's whole time rocketing from one end of the tank to the other. Although I have multiple zebrasomas, and have kept multiple bristles before, I'd only ever keep a single acanthurus.

nice selection, you have no problems with the yellow tang? i want one, but everyone tells me how aggressive and territorial they can be

Added to my post to include a bit about interactions. Yellow is a pi$$er, no question, and I added the purple during a tank upgrade. Definately invest, or make, an acclimation box. Yellow completely ignored the Sailfin; gave the Achilles a little trouble initial, but not for very long.

Nice tank... love the rock work. I would recommend getting a large acclimation box (even a large critter keeper will do). This will make adding tangs at different times easier, assuming you can (or don't want to) get them all at the same time due to QT limitations.

Thanks guys!!

I have 2 qt tanks, 20gallon and 40gallon breeder, currently in the 20g i have 2 clowns, and in the 40 7 Bartlett Anthias, they will be going in the DT in 4 weeks aprox (first citizens of DT)

as for tangs, ideally i would like a hippo/naso/achilles so i was thinking of getting them for my next batch, 2 in the 40 and 1 in the 20

2 question, would this qt setup work?
can i add them so soon knowing i will be adding allot more little fish in my tank

also the final addition to the tank will be a pair of blue throat triggers, i figured since i will be doing 2-3 feedings a day my blue throats could become good citizens... (3 tangs and 2 triggers in total for the bigger fish)

what do you guys think?

i need RC's stamp of approval on all my decision!

Tangs are on the aggressive side compared to most other reef fish. It's usually best to add them after the other fish you are planning. I know my powder blue doesn't care for new additions to my 8' 240g.

A 20g and 40g are perfect QT tanks, IMO.

i was really hoping for "sounds like a solid plan, add them first", meaning i am at least 8 months away now from that, they are just so damn amazing in a tank!

i cant wait to get my tangs! but i have to be patient and do it right,

i might setup another qt to speed things up!

i will put my fish list together and post it by tonight, Thank you so much for the quick replies and all the help!

I would usually agree that tangs should be added last, but I have never had a tang go after a trigger, so if those are the only things that are coming, you should be good, but that will really depend on what goes on this list.

Though out of focus (still counts) you can see my five ....

It's quite remarkable how quickly one can fill a tank this big.

I tend to be a bit dismissive of the whole 'introduce fish in a particular order' because, frankly, it only works once, and only for folks who actually stick to the plan - which I never seem to be able to do. A good QT process, to get them fully acclimated, and a socialization box, work really well. Frankly, in a tank this size, with the exception of really aggressive fish, I haven't had a real problems. Just my two cents!
