Tangs, need advice

Today, i added a fat healthy 6" blue tang to my tank. My friend was taking down his tank. the problem is, i have a purple tang around the same size that is just as fat. it seems like he is slashing him with his spine on his tail. the blue tang comes out... the purple attacks and so on

here is the question, can a tang kill another tang with the spine? I know the agression will go away, i'm just worried about how sharp and if the blue tang is getting cut up?

If may not be enough to kill him, but it will definatly stress him out a lot. Make sure he's getting enough to eat and that the purple tang isn't beating on him during feeding time.

The spine is sharp enough to cause major damage and can leave a cut that can get infected and cause the fight to die. Also I have see tang keep hitting fish with the spine until the fish dies and then still keep hitting the fish.

Is the Blue tang a Hippo tang or an Atlantic Blue tang, if it's the Hippo they should be ok in time but if it's the Atlantic Blue you may have a problem keeping it together with the Purple tang.

May not kill it but I am 100% sure that it can keep the other tang pinned down to the point that it will starve or die of a combination of stress, diet and injuries.

Can you block off part of the tank with eggcrate for a week or so? That way the PT will get used to seeing the new addition without being able to touch him ... I used that trick when I added my scopas in with my yellow.

convenient thread. i needed to post related info on my tank. my yellow tang is mean, and definitely not lean, as he eats like crazy. when a smaller, purple tang was introduced he started to whip his spine at the new conspicifec. he is currently in the refugium. how long should i keep him in there for?

Which tang in is the Refug? I would put the ywlloe tang in the refug for about a week or so and then reintroduce it. Yellow tangs can be problems and mixing one with a Purple mayn't work.
