I won't tell you that you 'CAN'T', but I'll say you 'SHOULDN'T'. Not only should you not attempt both, you shouldn't attempt either.

I have that combo, but in a 120 gal. They are buddies swimming together. 40 would be too small.

I would not try either in your size tank. Min tank size i would even attempt that combo would be 120g+

my yellow and purple who were added at the same time to a 7 x 2 x2 aprox 200g tank did not get along they were aprox the same size... yellow is now in one tank and purple in another... i would not attempt it in a 40g
