Tangs?

Anybody ever successfully breed say, yellow tangs? Zebrasoma are more abundant so I thought maybe they might have been at least tried. Comments?

From what I have heard many large aquariums ie Georgia aquariums have had spawnings but I don't think any were successfully raised.

Ahhh ... the holy grail. Whoever comes up with the replicable procedure for raising Zebrasoma flavescens is going to be a rich guy. Unfortunately, they're really tough.

They are very hard. I don' t think anyone has raised any. If you've ever seen a Tang spawn you'll see why its so hard.

without reading the story. (no time) Didn't they harvest very small larvae from the ocean and raise them? If they did that's not the same thing as we know...

I've heard of only very rare accounts of tangs breeding in captivity, and never have I come across successful rearing of the fry.

I've heard of them mating but for them to spawn you need a huge tank. They are open water spawners. Whoever succesfuly breeds and raises the fry will be not only a very lucky but a very rich man too.
