On a glass tank, both are removable (if you later decide you don't like it). On an acrylic tank, I would think the easy removability of a static cling film would make that the better choice I would think.

It's a new 125 gal Lee Mar tank and I'm trying to decide which would last as well as be easy. I've painted in the past and I always get it on the from no matter how much I tape the trim.
I've done the vinal, actual 3D backgrounds and paint. Now I do nothing and just let coraline be my background but of what I've used I really found paint to be the nicest way to go. Because it's on glass it can be removed later as well. The last tank I painted I used a clear paint designed to mimic stained glass and it gave a really nice look to it. Lots of options with paint and it tents to really make the corals stand out.

The main reason why I wanted to try vinyl is cause I wanted to try something different. Also I don't feel like moving the tank outside to paint. I like trying different options.
I just paint indoors. It's not a toxic kind of paint or spray. Trying different options is great and of course in the end we always do what suits us. For me paint turned out to be a nice looking, easy to do, and affordable option. But, not as affordable and easy as nothing! Ha!
