Hello everyone. I have some questions about tanks. I'm talking about the actual glass/acrylic enclosures that house our fish and corals. I'm very new to this and I really don't know anything yet but I know enough to ask.

I'm looking to set up in the near future a 90g-120g reef tank. One of the issues that I've run into is that I don't know who makes a good quality tank. There has to be a preferred brand or manufacture that caters to the saltwater community with their specialty tanks. I've visited the big box pet stores and they have all these tanks on their shelves but most of them seem geared towards freshwater fish.

Besides Red Sea Max, who out there is making reef ready aquariums that are reliable and well built in the size range that I'm looking for? Or is the stuff on the shelf at PetSmart just as good? I don't want to make the mistake of buying the wrong thing when there might be something better out there.

I would check craigslist in you area to save money!!$$ I got a 90 gallon Tank, Stand and Canopy for $250.00 and 180 gallon setup for $1000.00 All my tanks are used!!

Oh most reefer's will give you good deals on tanks!!

Thank you for the reply. The thing is I'm not really looking to save money or get a deal on a tank. I'm looking to find out what is a reputable and recommended brand. Who's the name in tanks that people go to the most? (i.e. Aqueon, Marineland etc)

As a beginner it can be difficult to find the tank you need there are ton's of different model and you have ventured into a PetsMart which really only deals with fresh water aquariums.
Best bet is to find a Aquarium shop that deals in saltwater aquariums. An work with them to get something that best fits your needs.

Look at what you want to keep: that dictates the size and shape. Eg, a particular tang may require a 200 gallon long. A blenny might be happy in a 30 cube. Etc. Get back to us with what part of the hobby interests you and we can give you some specifics. Not everybody makes every config, and many of the bigger tanks are custom. My own, eg, is a 105 gallon quarter cylinder that's over 30" deep, because of the space I have for it and the fish I want and the corals I want and the lighting I can afford only one of.

Being that this would be my first Marine tank, I would want some fish and corals that aren't super high maintenance or difficult to keep. Some forgiving species since I'm bound to make mistakes. Don't need anything fancy at this point, just something critters that I can learn on and that'll look good as well.

I definitely don't want anything that is going to maim or kill me lol... I was reading some of the threads on Palytoxins and I couldn't believe it:eek1:
