Thanks, I'll give them a ring and see what he recommends.

I know Glasscages has a monthly truck that comes down this way and their prices don't seem too bad for glass, however; they are high on acrylic...thoughts on them?

Thoughts on glass over acrylic..? Is it worth spending the extra money for acrylic to save maybe 100lbs?

Also, I've been out of the hobby for about 8-9 years and it seems much has changed in certain designs...Is there safer and quieter design then using the old durso pipes? I hated that design, always having to mess with it and extremely loud to other designs I have seen recently. I've been reading up on this site and others and best I can tell the Bean Animal design seems to get the most praise from a design, functionality and noise perspective.

http://www.beananimal.com/projects/silent-and-fail-safe-aquarium-overflow-system.aspx - this design seems to be a set it and forget it type of design which I favor. Does anyone here have this setup in use and can comment on it?

The tank will go into my wife's business so I need a quiet and set it and forget it method as she has no interest in learning how to maintain it and living in South Florida we have lots of power outages as some of you know.

Last but not least, one of the problems I had in the past was being able to keep the temperature on the tank below 85 degrees...which I had to resort to a chiller which I don't want to do again...any thoughts on people from South Florida and how you are keeping your tanks below 85 without using a chiller? Maybe the pump of choice was introducing too much heat? I used to have a Reeflo external pump.

The tank will be either a 240G or 280G.

Appreciate the feedback.

Thanks I'll try them tomorrow. I've used them for generic acrylic work in the past but not sure they build tanks on a regular basis but I'll check, thanks.

I did reach out to Coral Springs but never got a callback today as promised. Spoke to another local place who had no idea what type of overflow I was talking about (beananimal) so not much faith in a callback there. Got a price from Reef Savvy and Living Color which was outrageous, I can't believe people actually pay their prices, but to each it's own. For what they quoted me I can have a cylinder tank built, anyway, I have 3 other calls to some other folks whom I've been referred to so we'll see where they come in at. Thus far, it looks to be between $1600-$2000 for 3 panel starfire glass and $1700 for acrylic so I'm torn between the two since price is basically the same. I'm guessing glass is 350-400lbs where acrylic is probably ~300 and much clearer looking...

Being a fish only tank I guess I could go either way. Any insights?

I run bean animal setup in my ghost overflow, if plumbed correctly it's dead silent. Mine's deadnsilent, full siphon is self starting and easy to maintain.

That's great to hear it because I need this to be silent, my wife would throw a rock at it by day 5 if it's not.

Can I ask you a few questions:

Is your overflow coast to coast and 6x6 or if not what size is it?
If coast to coast, do you have your return holes fully above or just above, ie 1 or 2" above the 3 overflow holes?
Assuming only 3 pipes are needed and would go on either left or right side of tank, vs. middle correct?
Are the holes drilled on the tank 1" or 1.5" for both the overflow and the returns?
Assuming you have 2 returns or do you have more?
How low does your overflow start from the top of the tank, 1",2", 3"?

Thanks, I greatly appreciate your help, sorry for all the questions.

Tank building must be up 10000% these days...Out of 10 calls got 3 email back, without a follow up reply and or callback, haha.

I have a 540 ATM with coast to coast overflow I built ....with a 300 gal sump I built.....if your interested come by or give me a call ...shot you my number

Thanks.
There are 2 measurements that must be 96L by 24W...the height doesn't matter...over 24" that is. What size is your tank?
