tank center brace broke!!

I woke up this morning to see that my marineland 110 gallon tank's brace broke in the front of the tank. I have used a clamp to hold the tank from bowing too much until I can figure out what to do. Choices are special order the frame or just shell out the money for a new tank since the tank is ten years old anyways. Also, are there any other companies that make a five foot tank that is no wider than 20 inches?

Thanks,
Seth

Hello you are going to need to repair it using a similar shaped piece of acrylic. Drill the old brace and attach with plastic screws and nuts.

Hi I found this picture on the internet it shows basically what I would do. I was cleaning my 90 and set my halide to close to the brace. it is still one piece but I have been wieghing my options just in case, Here is the picture, I would use a thinner piece of acrlic though.

You didn't mention anything about bowing more than an inch in OP. Whatever you do, do not take the clamps off. Guaranteed to break and lose all that water. I had that happen overnight on me in an 80 frameless over 20 years ago.

Luckily you caught yours. Good example of a fix right there.

There have been several people who have reported success replacing the center brace with acrylic. I believe I have even seen people do it on purpose before filling to prevent it from casting a shadow.

Usually the recommendation is to leave 1-2" of the old brace on each end and then drill 2 holes on each end. Using nylon bolts you can attach a 1/4" thick piece of acrylic (or thicker if you have it) and then use weld-on to help bond it to the old brace.

the only problem is that my brace separated about two inches closer to the front of the tank so i would not be able to repair like in the picture above. Any other suggestions other than leaving the clamp on for now?

eurobrace the whole tank. Take off your plastic trim and silicone in a eurobrace around the whole tank.

Hello you are going to have to do a partial drain down to relieve some pressure. so the repair can be accomplished correctly. what ever your decision. this will occur.

You'd have to do more than a partial, as the tank was designed with bracing to hold it together. More than half would have to come out I would think as not to split seams at corners.

You might be able to use an epoxy to bond the acrylic to the plastic rim. Or glass and silicone underneath it. 1/4" atleast.
