Tank consolidation

Yeesh, that is terrible dude. Here is what I can think of that you have banked with myself.

Turaki, RHCP, Willisae, Loisettae(sp?), Hyacinthus, Red WM, and Tort (purple w/ green base accents).

I also could chip off some smaller frags of Undata, RP, as I know you had those. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you get back.

Thanks for the offer, it means a lot to me. I just got done fragging what I could of a bunch and threw out an eight inch pink lemonade, a six inch rhcp, a foot across willisae, huge turaki, etc. Thinking about eddies comment, while not accurate, led me to the decision to remove what was clearly dying in an attempt to save the rest.

Don't sweat it at all. That's part of what being in the ETRC is about, helping each other out when it is needed. I know you would do the same. Also, I understand what you mean about trashing large colonies, it's painful but if that's what it takes to stop the RTN, then it's still a better option than losing everything. I am still not entirely sure that I have heard a stone cold good answer as to what causes RTN. I have heard lots of guessing; everything from calc/alk swing to viral and chemical reaction. I do know that if it starts happening to one that often it spreads to other colonies very quickly and removal seems to be the only viable option. Let me know when you are ready for the frags.

sorry to hear of your troubles. I have a few of your corals I could get you frags of. Also, I could get you a frag of a pink lemonade, it came from fishdocs tank, not yours though.

David,

Thanks, I might take you up on that offer at some point. Fishdoc originally got his frag from me I believe so in a round-about way it did. Oh, and ammonia is the cause, not true RTN since I know the cause but the same sort of sloughing off of tissue like RTN creates.

Dave

I've got a few from you, and a bunch from fishdoc, so let me know if I can help out in anyway. I've got a thread up in the Alabama Reefers forum with some of what I've got. I'll work on a list.

Sorry about your losses. I have a pink cabbage leather that might be large enough to frag off a piece for you. I wish I had something more that was big enough to frag for you.

I understand how devastating sick corals can be, I've been fighting Brown Jelly on my Duncan for 3 weeks. I think I finally got it stopped but almost half of the main polyp was eaten first. The only good news is what's left ate 2 brine shrimp tonight. That make me hopeful. I wish you similar good luck in stopping the RTN.

Huge Oregon tort colony going, A. jacquelene almost gone, you get the idea by now. This may result in my departure from the hobby all together...

Dave

Very sorry to hear dave:(

FWIW I lost all of my Acros a couple of summers ago and it only took me a year or so to bounce back and a couple to have some nice large colonies again. I know how devastating it is as I know how much work you have put into your tanks.

When and if you decide to restock just LMK and frags of whatever I have are yours. I downsized when I moved but I kept several Acros and Montis a really like.

Again sorry to hear, hang in there.

Chris

Here is a link with some information that may or may not be helpful.

http://www.reefs.org/library/article/rtn.html

My personal opinion for whatever it is worth is that what is happening is the various corals have been stressed by moving and the normal low level chemical warfare that goes on all the time between coral species suddenly went nuclear. It is interesting that RTN mostly attacks SPS species and SPS species are well known for the variety as well as toxicity of some of the chemicals they produce.

Good luck and I hope you don't give up the hobby. It would be a shame.

Tonight I've parted with a basketball-sized pocillopora colony grown from a 1/2" frag, a dinner plate-sized colony of Palmer's blue mille, and a few others. Still got a few left but don't hold out much hope. I did get frags of several that are OK at the moment in another tank. If anybody needs calcium reactor media come help yourself!

Fish and the few LPS I have in that tank appear fine. Ammonia is still at 0.25 though. Now that there's very little left that should start to clear up. Time to add some more Microbacter7...

Most of the LPS and softies are in the little tank, along with my grapefruit-sized purple monster and the other salvaged frags. A few are gone forever and likely won't be replaced, like Shades of Fall and Kedd's acro. Got lots of room for others though!

Dave

Well I will keep an eye out for Kedd's and Shades of Fall. Let me know when you've finished re-cycling...that sounded weird, but you know what I meant. Glad to hear that you LPS stuff is all good though. What kind of Poci was it? All of my Palmers Blue crapped out as well recently, but if I remember correctly you have a bunch at AM, so that shouldn't be hard to re-aqcuire.

That's the ORA blue at AM. I may have Palmer's there as well, just don't recall. Age sux.

I know I sold a frag or two of the Palmer's Blue at the swaps, if I can think of who I sold them to I will let you know. I have the thin branched green with pink tips poci, that I can frag, but if I remember correctly you had the thick branched all green.

Can you post what ever you have left if there is anything left? I think you said the purple fire fish didn't make it, but just wondering what else is left.

Thanks,
Dan
