tank consolidations???

I currently have a 3 gallon mantis tank (N. wennerae), it's been a great little tank, but I'm trying to get down to two tanks. I have a 50 gallon tank with a diadema dottyback and a damsel. I want to move the mantis into that tank, but that is one mean dottyback. He snacks on peppermint shrimp and is making life miserable for the damsel. So my question is this - who will win, the dottyback or the mantis?? I could care less if the mantis enjoys a dottyback dinner, but would be very very sad if it were the other way around. Opinions???

My money would be on the mantis... even though the wennerae's are not as fierce or large as a peacock, I bet if the dotty went to eat him, he'd get two clubs square in the face...

I did wind up putting them in the same tank, thought I'd let you know how it turned out...

The mantis loved exploring his new home, moving into the new tank, it was great fun to see him running all over the tank. The damsel & dottyback went back and forth, battling for tank dominance. Was getting scared for the damsel for a while, then one day it was reversed and the damsel had the dottyback cornered!

When the dust (sand?!) finally settled, the damsel owned the tank and I rarely saw the dottyback. About that time I also rarely saw the mantis. In fact, I didn't see the mantis for a few months, and wasn't even sure the dottyback hadn't gotten him. So when the dottyback got himself stuck on the other side of baffles in the tank, I caught him and got rid of him. Then I saw the mantis three times in the next two days!!

So... they apparently came to some sort of an agreement, but it didn't work out for me cause I didn't get to see either of them much (probably the mantis & dottyback weren't such happy campers either). Glad to report the mantis is a happy camper once more!
