Tank crashing

Most of my Sps frags are dead, couple snails, and most recently my yellow tang died.... nothing has changed in my tanks for months. However I did realize that I accidentally left my flush valve open on my RO/DI system open. Could that be what's causing my tank to crash??

Did your salinity change in your tank?
Or are you thinking the dirty water caused the crash?

Another question is your ro produces water when it's in flush mode?
If so then it's not hooked up right.

Can you share them? I've had incidents in the past where I strip the nutrients too fast via aggressive skimming, or through media absorption or rapid water changes. Any of that happen in the past few weeks?

When was your last water change? Do u make water changes often? Could also be bacterial, which has always been a suspicion of mine when I have sps with some sort of tissue necrosis.

My tank is over 4 years old I lost all my sps and some lps sent out an icp test and tin was elevated and iodine was low along with some other minor trace elements, however I did not lose any fish, I would send out an icp test asap to nail down what is going on

If u start with all dry rock and your parameters are in check then u are lacking of beneficial bacteria. In the 90 we have live rock from the ocean which contains multi strain of beneficial bacteria. Your reef tank biology need it to maintain corals. Since the live rock ban most reefer start with all dry rock and go through the regular nitrogen cycle. But if u don't add bacteria your tank only contain the nitrobacter which convert amonia to nitrite then to nitrate. If u browse the forum a lot of tank crash related to yours.

How old is your system for starters? IMO - This could be another new tank syndrome story.... not sure what really caused the tank to crash. However, blooms of instability could be your culprit.

Here let's me make it simple to understand. Reef tank that start with all dry rock with no additional bacteria supplement or other live rock source is just like a fish only system. The dry rock is comparable to the fake Coral that fish only put in tank. So 3 years old doesn't mean it's mature and ready for Coral.

What if you start with Dr. Tim’s or microbacter7? Do those help?

Yes if u using both it's a good combo however the best source still an old live rock from the ocean because it contains more diverse strain of bacteria.

Real live rock tanks rarely get Dino's.

Nothing like the bacteria soup that Mother Nature created.

If you can share a photo of the tank with your equipment and corals.

Im still on the path of the tank not having enough bacteria or time to mature.
