Tank cycling ?

I have started to cycle my tank last wednesday. After. 5 days of having shrimp floating in tank barely any ammonia detectable. Less the 1ppm

Is one shrimp enough to cause ammonia spime in 150 gal of water? If so how long would it take to cause ammonia level to hit 3ppm

I would say no that is not enough shrimp. You need to get several more. You say its a 130 tank with a 55 sump. thats a significant amount of water volume and rock to move through.

I agree one shrimp will likely not be enough. You might also consider adding pure ammonia. Use pure ammonia without surfactants (available at most hardware stores, I get mine at Ace Hardware) or perfumes. To be sure the ammonia does not contain surfactants shake the bottle and if it bubbles up like dish soap it has surfactants in it, pure ammonia will not have bubbles. To raise 100 gallons of water from 0 to 2 ppm ammonia you would need to add 0.8 grams (8 ml) of standard 10% pure ammonia.

Use pure ammonia but don't over do it. If you put to much you'll be dealing with loads of nitrates in the long run and most likely lots of algae as well.

I cant find pure ammonia in town. All has detergent perfume additives. Have replaced single shrimp with three shrimp. Testing maybe .5ppm ammonia.

Do not just plop a piece of shrimp in the tank. Grind it up into small pieces to increase surface area.

Three shrimp will help. Give it a day or two. You could also start "ghost feeding" the tank to give an extra boost but i think youll be fine with three shrimp.

No. then you cant get it out and it will continue to raise the ammonia.
