ooh, cut me, i bleed

btw ic=I see=I understand=You got it!=Affirmative=Your position is noted and agreed with...etc.

With all my circulation, I have a total flow of @ 6000gph in my 120.
Im thinking it still may not be enough.

I have the 40 stretch hex, and I run about 700 gal through the sump plus 350 or so through the canister filter. I am planning on adding a closed loop that does 500-750gph. Total flow = 1550-1800 gph. Mine was originally designed for SPS though. The amount of flow needed for your setup will depend on the types of coral kept.

Has anyone out there considered that we might be doing the same thing with waterflow that we were (and some still are) with lighting--that no matter what, bigger numbers are always better? I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone with a 20g tank running a 400W MH then wondering why his corals bleach; now I'm starting to wonder about the 20g tanks with 2000 GPH flow. I know that I've had sps whose tissue started to recede until they were moved away from the higher flow areas in my relatively underpowered (I'm going to guess 15-20x the tank volume's flow) tank.

I have about 9x's flow (but a lot of velocity) in my SPS tank and everything is going well so far.

Flow is only good if you are cleaning the water that you are blowing all over your corals. Flow for the sake of flow is pointless, all it means is that you have dirty water blowing all over your corals 50X's an hour.
