Tank HELP!

When it rains it pours! As luck would have it, I had everything set up, Skimmer, Phosban, Carbon, GEO Reactor. Then I got a couple of SPS frags and tried a new plumbers putty that I picked up that said that it was for potable water. (Harvey's) First it made my skimmer run over with fine bubbles, I had to turn it off because it kept overflowing, 2 days later and after a water change I still can't run my skimmer because it's overflowing and it sends too many fine bubbles into the system! That putty didn't harden so I removed as much as possible and picked up one from the pet store and re-glued the frags - unfortunately 2 of them aren't looking that good. The rest of the tank still looks great. What can I do? Now I am noting that my pH is lower than usual, I checked the probe and there were no bubbles on the tip.
I am mainly concerned about how to fix the skimmer problem, has this happened to anyone else?
BTW. I have tried both my Deltec Skimmer (external), and Reef Octopus skimmer (in sump), and both are overflowing with bubbles.

I have used Harvey's products before and thinks thier great...
But I have not used any for salt water. As you said it stated potable water which is drinkable fresh water.

I would do a major water change of 30 to 50 percent if you system is well established...then a few more over the next week ...to get rid of pollution the solution is dilution....( water changes )
