after reading this thread http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=908616
i started to think about my new 75 gallon that i just set on my floor ( floor is a floating laminat so i thoguht withtime it would compress the foam under the floor and even out

well it ends up my tank id supported in the middle as i can slide a card under the one side but no where else ( front right and the right side as well as part of the right back) is this cause for alam due to the small size of this tank?

its level acordin to the levels.. but.. it obviusly isnt as i can slide

If the level says its level then it is. Do you have water in this tank yet?

no i ment the floor is level but the tank isnt sitting flat on it. i can slide playing cards under the front right corner

If the tank is full of water and level, then everything is fine.
You still might want to check that everything is settling okay and still level about once a month for a while.

You could always try shimming the floor with playing cards....

What is in the tank? Is the space between the stand and tank or the stand and floor?

IMO this may be a problem if its directly under the tank. Tanks are designed to distribute the weight and pressure along the entire outside edges. The larger the tank, the bigger the issue. Keeping it unlevel can cause twisting and pressure points which could spell disaster. I would remedy this now rather than when its too late.

lol oh yeah. yes there is water in the tank. ill drain it ,,, im a few days when im off from work and build a quick stand out of 2 by 4's ( will basicaly be a perfectly level base..

this tank sits directly on the floor. didnt care to get a stand since it is a frag tank

would a piece of wood ( the large sheet type that is 1 inch think... type that tenecor uses to make the top of the stand) be good to set the tank on and then just place two twobyfours at the ends to hold it up so that it isnt effectef by the lil dents in the floor

or should i just place twobyfours on the bottom edges of the tank and sand them down till they are level

i dont think this is somthing that using a regular stand could fix since the problom is in the floor

anyway i could shimm the tank without removing the water. think the tank will eventualy settle ( this is floating wood floor meaning that there is some foam under it that could compress ,,, i hope.. or hopfully the wood compresses and the tank settles flat. i knoticed today that hte gap is a bit smaller now

heck my acrylic tank dosnt even sit compleatly on its stand. there are severl ( 3 ) areas in the back where can slie somthing under.. and this is on a proffesional stand.. but then again that tanks been up for a year. with no probloms so im not too worried about it.. wish i put foam udner it tho

Unfortunately, I am not a structural engineer. IMO, its a 50/50 proposition. Personally, I wouldn't risk shimming as pounding the shims in might make things worse. Better to put it on a stand. It doesn't have to be elaborate and could be as simple as some cinder blocks and 2x4's.

and what makes you think 2 bys will be any more level or any more flat.. they do warp and usualy have a small bend ( atleast when they first get them in)
