Hey, anybody in town do tank maintenance? Any idea what a going rate would be on a hands-off monthly / weekly service for a 150 reef? Say weekly clean / tidy up, monthly WC / deep clean?

Got a friend wanting a hands-off reef.

I know that EbayFish (Shawn) has service as well as Fin's used to anyway with new owners not sure. Somebody will chime in most likely. On another note if your next to get the Par Meter i can meet you by Fins if that's OK?

I do tank maintenance in alabama and for a tank that size and that much work (weekly) I would charge at least $2 per gallon per month plus supplies, maybe more depending on how convenient the location was and how conveniently located the tank was. It seems high to those of us who do our own maintenance but there are many people who will pay it.

there is a guy i see at the critter all the time, that works there part of the time & part of the time i see him getting large quantities of stuff that look like setup & maintence work stuff....kinda assume that is what he is doing. don't know his name, but he's always been very helpful when i've talked to him. maybe call the critter & ask them??

yea i saw a truck out there today...and i think it had something like "aquarium maintenence" on the side of the truck/van....maybe its the same guy james is seeing too

I'm pretty sure Tim, that used to own FINS is still doing maintenance, you could try and get up with him. Good Luck

Thx guys- just trying to get a sense of market. I told her would prob be at least $100/mo plus supplies. Looks like I was way off :). What's a maint plan look like? Is weekly typical, or less frequent? Never really thought about it till today, I'd make somebody pay me to work on my tank, tending my little world is the best part of the hobby.

Emerald Bay's pricing is based off of the size of the tank, your distance from them, and how many times a month they come out. You'd have to contact them for the exact quote, but from what I saw it was extremely competitive and affordable. I know that when you sign a contract, you get some significant discounts on livestock and equipment, plus I think if you purchase the tank from them there are some even bigger discounts to be had.
