Hi All,
I'm located in Central Texas about an hour North of Austin and 2.5 South of Dallas. Houston and San Antonio are also within driving distance if necessary. We're moving houses and the wife gave me the go ahead to upgrade my current system. I'm running a 130 gallon acrylic (5ftx18inx30in). The tank will be flush with the wall of the game room and extend into the office for maintenance and so that the whole family can enjoy it at their leisure (current one is in my office and I work from home). We're having the wall built so we have options when it comes to tank size. I'm not a fan of the 30in deep tank as it makes maintenance a huge pain for anything on the bottom. I was thinking a 180 or 240 gallon system. We have one little one and are licensed for foster care so I thought sticking with acrylic would be better given the potential for toys being thrown etc...
I've been trying to identify potential manufacturers and got a quote from the fish gallery (Austin). I looked at glass cages prices but heard a number of horror stories and even the positive experiences still noted some defects with their glass tanks. Has anyone had experience with their acrylics?
Other manufacturers I identified included LivingColor, Envision Acrylics, and TruVu. Thoughts? Comments?
Also the gentleman at the Fish Gallery said they could do either glass or acrylic, but recommended glass. Apparently they reinforce their corners with steel instead of plastic and use a much thicker glass. The plus for using them would be they're close enough that they'd be willing to handle the install and offer a 3 year warranty. Also they'd be willing to do a monthly maintenance package
