Tank neeeds to come down

All,

This is probably the second most depressing thing to happen to me this year, but my 360g needs to come down. A few hours ago I discovered a hairline crack in one of the eurobraces.

I'm struggling to come up with a plan of attack in the long term sense, but in the short term, I don't feel it's prudent to leave the tank running, so I'll be tearing it down. I will need to either "loan" or sell the livestock (at this point, I would LOVE if someone would just hold the livestock, but if no one's interested, I'll sell).

I have the following I need to home immediately:

1) ±4" yellow eye kole tang
2) Pair of ozzie clowns (forget the species at the moment). Fairly small.
3) Two pajama cardinals
4) Two transparente cave gobies
5) A pair of barred prawn gobies with a red striped pistol shrimp

Plus about 50 hermits, about 60 assorted snails, and about 100 lbs of live rock.

The fish are all healthy and disease/parasite free. All eat frozen mysis or blends, and the tang, cardinals, and cave gobies have recently started eating pellet.

Anyone interested in helping, please post here. I haven't been on RC much lately due to some family health issues but will check this thread over the next few days. Will probably start draining the tank tomorrow. I really just need to get this thing empty at this point.

PS - I'll just go ahead and plan on selling the rock, hermits, snails, and sand (there's probably about 100 - 150 lbs of medium-grain sand. It's very clean as the system's only been up for a month). Come and take what you want. Let's say a quarter each for the critters and a buck per pound of rock or sand (I'll be generous, just need it out.). The fish - I'd really prefer if someone would just hold them for a few months, but if there are no takers, I'll put prices up to sell them.

Also, if someone has a small submersible pump (thinking mag 9 or something?) in the syracuse area that I could borrow to move water, I'd really appreciate it.

Wow - so so sorry to hear this. What a heartache. I too wish I could help - but something tells those fish would not do well in a 7G tank :(

I have an empty 75 gallon in my basement. I wouldnt mind maintaining it for your fish if it comes down to it

Well thanks to Fritz there's a tentative plan of setting up his empty 60g at my house to temporarily house livestock. Will still need to get rid of sand, rock, and some of the
cleanup critters.

Tank is tentatively coming down Saturday. Instead of selling the sand, rock, and critters, I'll make an offer. Come help with labor, and you can have whatever you want for free.

Still looking for a small submersible to borrow for the move if anyone's got one.

Glad to read the down but not out aspect of this Dwzm. Are you going to try and just replace the eurobrace section once it's empty? That's probably strongly attached and epoxied right onto everything right?

dude that sucks. I can hold any corals you have. if needed I have a 30 which can house a few fish. My 72 isn't ready yet.

I should be able to swing over this weekend and help out.

as it happens to be I'm looking for live rock for the 72 :)

you can fix the tank,as i did mine.the eurobrace on my 240 was cracked and broken when i bought it(cheap).the manufacturer of the tank told me not to replace the brace but to put another one under it.they said to go a foot or so either side of the crack, but i went the full lenth 7'3".when i water tested the tank (in the drive way)i found the tank to have 1/8" of deflection in the center.i left it like that for a week.its now up and running. good luck

Dwiz, I have a 120 rimless that I would be willing to let you have on a long term loan if you want it. One lounger to another. Keep it for as long as you need it, PM me if you are interested.

Id drain it down a ways, and try to repair it by putting another piece under the crack. Not familiar working with acrylic, how long would it take to dry? And how long before you could put stress on it again? guess this would determine if u can keep livestock in it. Im just trying to think what your options r instead of taking it down?

:sad1::sad1::sad1::sad1:

Another bump in the road pal! Hope everything goes well.

What time Saturday? I might be able to get a few people to come out and help. PM me the info and I'll let you know.

I wish I was in a position to help, but I am in a shambles at the moment setting up a 120. I would, however love to take those snails and possibly the hermits off your hands. What kind of snails and what kind of hermits? I live in Rochester, so I'd have to make a trip, but $0.25 critters is worth the drive.

I may also be interested in the sand depending on the size...do you have a picture of the sandbed?

Please let me know :)

Mike

PS- your PM box is full.
