Tank of the Month - January 2008

Stan, Thanks for the PM and Clarification about the Calcium Reactor. I appreaciate it.

It's been said many times already. This system looks awesome in person. If you saw a picture without the exterior of the tank, you would swear it was the ocean.

Energy, did I hear you correctly, you don't use a computer controller? do you use ozone and/or uv?

I noticed you have sand but not that much, is that for cosmetics only? do you have a remote deep sand bed?

Elliott- no computer controller and I used to but no longer run UV or Ozone. Shallow sand bed in the main display with no remote deep sand. I have run systems that way but do not do this currently. I believe a top notch skimmer will provide filtration than a deep sand bed. To recreate the spawning area that a sand bed provides I have excess live rock in a remote refugium, lifted off the bottom on eggcrate so I can blow out any accumulated detritus.

Amazing system. When did you put this all together?
I had Chris do a custom tank as well, and it has turned out to be an excellent addition.
Where have you gotten most of your livestock from?

Have you ever considered natural lighting? I understand it may be impossible with yoru current tank, but maybe comething to consider for your book.

Phenomenal tank! Gratz on TOTM.
Did you ever post build up pics? I'd love to see the island builds in more detail.

Energy, can you go over how you provide flow in such a large tank? again, many thanks for sharing your experiences

An absolutely beautiful tank. I am in awe of it.

Adorable kids too. :D

amazing tank what else to say love the aquascaping and the whole design great job u are officially my new reef idol

To hide the PVC framework I sprayed it with Great Stuffâ"žÂ¢ foam in a can. I let this foam cure for 24 hours and then I applied an epoxy resin that contained no mold inhibitors.

I don't suppose you can remember the epoxy resin, or go into a little more detail about this? I would like to do something similar and this seems like a great way.

I thought that I was pretty proud of my 250g until I saw that, now I am almost ashamed of it. Great, Great, Great tank !!!!
