Tank Pictures

Well, I painted mine prior to filling it which doesn't help you much...but there are still other options, like using acrylic sheets and fastening it to the back, you can buy tank backgrounds by the foot at most aquarium stores (even Petsmart, Pets Plus, etc...). There is even a plastic material used for making signs I believe that is corrugated like cardboard that comes in a bunch of colors and is lighter weight (and probably cheaper) than acrylic sheet.

Very beautiful pictures and tank! I'm surprised both your gobies are living in the same burrow since they are different gobies but from the same family. I've never really seen that happen with two of the same gobies. Quite interesting. Very cool polyps and colonies!

I eventually want to add another True Perc to form a pair, and maybe a Solar Wrasse, but he might compete with my Mandarin, so I'm not too sure about that yet.

For corals I will definitely be adding more zoos and hard corals. I also want to make a small colony of clams as well, the 3 maxima combo on LiveAquaria looks very sweet.

I just wanted to add more LR to increase the pod population to provide a better environment for my Mandarin.

For the most part, its Fiji rock. I knew already what I wanted in terms of aquascaping, so the hard part was to actually have it follow through. The left portion is held up by 2 rocks on the sand and the middle portion is held up by 3 rocks on the sand. On top of the rocks on the sand I stacked the largest, yet semi-flat piece onto them. This gave me a great amount of surface area to place all my other LR. It took like 6 hours to get that ridged cliff look.

An update: I moved some of the corals around and switched to a 10k MH bulb, so far I like the 10k more, brings a brighter more intense look to the tank. Heres my new FTS.

Can someone ID whats on my Chalk Bass?

the fins look a little short have the other fish been nipping at them, maybe the angel or clown?

Amazing for most, but given you're start date listed as Feb 2007 makes this quite an accomplishment. I gotta admit I like the tank before the new right side rock additions, just looks bigger. Maybe an upstream refugium (or downstream for that matter) might supply the Mandarin with additional edibles. Are you quarantining new additions. It seems you have really moved fast to accomplish a real show piece. Nice work.

Ugh...is there any way that it'll go away without the removal of the fish? The tank is pretty stocked and I would hate to destroy the aquascape and disturb all the inhabitants.

Looking back at the first picture (the one without the new right side addition of rocks), I do agree that it does look more open and better. The amazing overhang gives that part of the tank a look that is very unique and to me very aesthetically pleasing. Too bad I can't get it back that way, I think everyone here will agree that its impossible to stack rock in the same exact position back once its been taken apart.

I didn't quarantine any addition. I have 13 fish and all of them are eating aggressively, show no signs of illness, except for that Chalk Basslet and all get along. The two Banggai Cardinals however seem to be flashing each other but I don't know if thats a sign of female dominance or if its female-female aggression. Theres been no physical damage to either of them so I think they'll be fine.

I did go pretty fast but for the most part I think I'm quite successful, I did lose 2 Royal Grammas and 2 Cleaner Shrimps. I think my Pistol Shrimp killed the 2 cleaners. There was this video someone posted and I have the exact same pistol and felt very stupid to have not research the Pistol Shrimp's compatibility with Cleaner Shrimps. The 2 Royal Grammas were added at different times but both died too. One jumped and the other one just vanished, that was very awkward, may have been the Pistol Shrimp but I hope not.

I think I'm maxed out with my fish load so from here on out, it'll be coral and clam loading time! I really want one of those Maxima Trio packs from Live Aquaria.

On your coral id... the first pic looks like DAISY POLYPS to me, still a polyp but quite different from star polyps. Daisy's are one of my personal fav's...had a whole colony get munched by a crab. For the aptaisia, there's also a product called Aptaisia Control, which is a little better than Joe's Juice--doesn't have to be injected, it is VERY thick and just has to be delivered on top of the thing. Literally melts the aptasia, which will sting the crap out neighbors it touches, zoo's especially won't open up if one is near enough to touch.

I know your tank is still pretty young, but I wanted to ask anyway. Do you have any issues with your Pygmy Angel picking on your corals? Or any aggression issues with it? I've been thinking about getting one but want to avoid those problems if at all possible. I hear they can be mean little buggers. But other people say they're...well... angels!

My Flameback did nip at my clam and this one specific zoa colony but it quickly stopped. I can only hope that its permanent and that he simply missed the rock and got the coral and clams by accident. He got semi-aggressive to the Chalk Basslet but only for the first day, they swim side by side all the time and everything is fine. He didn't even give a second look to my Long-nose Hawkfish, Bar Goby and my Scissortail Goby. Maybe the Chalk Basslet was too similar to in him shape? I'm not sure but all is calm now, no damage done to the corals, clams or any fish, knock on wood. Best of luck to you if you decide to purchase one, they can be quite amusing to look at.
