Tank planning have stream question

I am in the planing stages of a 120 (4ftx2ftx2ft) or 150 (5ftx2ftx2ft) tank (working on the budget). I can not decide if I should plan for a pair of 6100's or a pair of 6200's. Either will have the new controler. Tank will be mostly SPS with a few LPS and clams. This will be most of the tank's circulation. Shoting for 5-10x from the return pump. Input would be appreciated.

6100s will be plenty. 6200s and you'll have fish pressed up against the glass and flesh tearing off your lps. no, but really 6100s are strong and even for my upcoming 6ft tank im going w/6100s.

Thanks John. That is my basic feeling. Also, if I feel it is not enough I can add another down the road.

I'm also planning my 120g tank and I just got a slightly used TS24 kit off of the selling forums for it. It is 2x 6100 and the 7095 controller. I think it should be more then enough flow for that size of tank.

i'd go 6100's with a multicontroller. go to the dealer forums- roger is a buddy of mine and owns Tunze USA. he's more than happy to help people with stream questions. i have a 600 gallon reef with 2 6100's and 2 wavebox's i think that 2 6100's will be perfect for your set up bro.

I would go with the 6100's I have 3 of them plus a closed loop . 6200 are too much for a 4x2x2 and even a 5x2x2 but 6x2x2 IMO would work fine with 6200's

Considered the wave box. Not reall interested. I had a squirt on my last tank and liked it, but trying to stay away from large amounts of plumbing on this tank.

I don't think the 6200s are overkill. I have a hard time believing that anyone who says they are too much has ever actually put a pair of 6200 in a 120. For a bb sps tank they are just about perfect.

I have 2 6100s in my 180 and they cycle from 30% to 60%. With 100% it's a riptide and tips of the SPS start losing tissue like crazy. BTW, don't aim the streams straight out at your corals - they don't like the direct stream. You'll probably want to bounce it off the front glass. But, that also means you're going to kick up a sandstorm (if you have sand).

Good luck.

i talked to someone that has a wavebox and he doesnt think that it's worth it. it's better to just get another 6100.

Planning no sand. Planned placement is in the back corners aimed at the front glass just off the diagonal front corner. If you are only hitting 60% on a 180 with the 6200's sounds like I should save a few buck and get the 6100's.

Do you have a similar set up? If so what is your experience? Do you know someone that does?

How do you have them set up? How do you run them? Do you have any LPS or clams? Do ou have a pic?

In my opinion for a mixed tank and if you go with 4x2x2 size your right on the boarder of the 6100 being to much the 6000 will be more than enough. If your planning on putting in sand the forget the 6200 and the 6100. Just my thoughts, good luck.
