Tank problems...

This is the first time it is my fault.

It is still bugging the S__t out of me the my PH is still 7.9! My bubble coral has turned from dark green to a lime color. I hope it makes it. I am just leaving the tank alone for a good while.

Unfortunately it takes alot longer for them to color back up than it does for them to fade. You should be back to normal in 1 or 2 months.

put an airstone in the tank. when you drive off co2 the ph will rise. its the samething kalk does to rase the ph.

I was told that you have to draw air from outside to pump into an airstone or it wouldn't do anything because if you just use air from inside the house, all you are doing is pumping air with CO2 into the tank.

Is that correct?

true but also not true your house may not have excess co2 but your tank might. its hard for water to absorb o2 but also hard to expell co2. its atleast worth a shot. it will take a few days to see any change but it is a cheap way of solving the problem. one way to test is to take a cup of tank water put in an air stone and let run for 30 min. see if the ph is higher than the tank ph. if so then you have enough o2 in the house to correct the problem.

I will do that today. Does Stephen have any QUITE air pumps? Everything I have bought so far has been very quite and I don't want a loud air pump over there now.

we've bought the whisper pumps and they are real quite. try the test before you go and buy a pump. hate to see you waste money and it not work.

the protien skimmer does do this to an extent, but it is real hard to get o2 to absorb into the water. so the more air you can introduce the better.

This seems like a lot of hassle for a tank that looks better than okay to me. So what if the numbers aren't ideal. Your corals like it.

i agree dave. i finally through away my ph monitor so i wouldn't think about it being low. as long as kh, calcium, and mag are in line ph will fall in line as well

yeah i agree with dave and chad let the animals do the talking not the chemical test if the corals dont mind the low ph then let is be as lond as it is consistent i think you be ok mine here at the store is 7.9 to 8.1

Yeah, I checked the damn thing twice. Eveything looks like it MAY be ok. I was stupid and added way too much at once. I think it will bounce back. The only thing I really care about is my bubble coral anyway. The zoos can come and go you know.

Good news, I got my 50 pound bag of Mag Flake and my 50 pound bag of Dow Flake today. My Calcium is 390. Alk is 9. Mag is 1350. I am going to add a little Kent Cal to level it off at 420.

Then try Farley's recipe and see how it does. You add small amounts a day so everything should stay set day to day.
