tank question

I believe I have a Perfecto 40gal breeder. I was going to start filling it this week. Currently I have the substrate in it. I just noticed while cleaning the glass and trim that there is a crack that goes all the way through the bottom piece of trim. I realize that the glass is siliconed together before the trim is put on, so there isn't really an issue with leaks, but I know the trim is a structural part of the tank. Is this something that I should worry about?

Even if it isn't structural, might as well get it replaced before you fill, just from a "i know its there" standpoint you will go crazy over the years for not doing it while you had the chance.

I agree, its not worth the risk, especially on such a cheap/common tank as a 40br.

Upon further inspection, I was incorrect. the crack is only on the face. I pulled the tank to the edge of the stand to look underneath. That part is ok. I wanted to reuse this tank because it's drilled and I installed the internal/external overflow boxes. But, I'm looking into a new one as well.

as shallow as the 40 breeder is- if the trim is not cracked all the way through it should be okay. The bottom trim is important- but not a important as the top trim. If it were mine- I would get some1 inch black electrical tape, and just go around the bottom trim tightly for 3 passes or so. If you decide to replace bottom trim- its fairly easy to do-and costs about 20 bucks to purchase trim. I would do something though- and not leave it as is.
