Ocellaris and percula clowns no matter where they are born can be very slow to accept a non-natural host anemone. Their natural host anemones are mostly H. magnifica and S. gigantea, neither of which are very good candidates for the home aquarium.
E. quadricolor (BTAs), S. haddoni (saddle carpets) and M. doreensis (LTAs) are the most commonly kept anemones. Most ocellaris and percs will eventually accept them, but sometimes it may take many months.
Since ocellaris and percs are the most common captive raised clowns, that tends to get the blame when they don't accept an anemone right away. IME, captive raised ocellaris are often more likely to accept strange anemones.
IMO, if ocellaris weren't so easy to breed and all the CB clowns were clowns that eagerly accept all anemones like clarkis and tomatoes, the rumor would have never started in the first place.
