There seem to be tank raised yellow assessors coming out of Australia for around $50. , instead of the $100. wildcaughts...ThatFishPlace carries them, but does not ship to California...I would appreciate any suggestions as to where I might get one...I just can't do $100., and would rather have a tank-bred one. Many Thanks!

I was just on the ORA site earlier today and see have both the yellow and blue listed as tank raised. I would think so long as they have some available any LFS in your area that deals with ORA should be able to get them for you. Of course they didnt list any price so you will have to find that out through your LFS.

Edit, here is a link to the ORA site,

"Tank raised" and "tank bred" are two different things. "Tank raised" fish are wild caught and raised to a saleable size in captivity.

I have had both. The wild caughts are much more expensive and can be more difficult to keep for the obvious wild caught reasons. However there is a thread on here discussing the coloration of the wilds vs tank bred. The opinion at the time was that the wild caughts were a much more brilliant gold yellow color where the tank bred ones had more of a mustard color. I think as they get bigger though the gold comes in nicely. Mine is a great fish and I love his colors

I was looking to pick up a group of yellow assessors a few months ago. Pricing on the fish was much higher than I remembered.

One of my fish sources told me there is someone in Louisiana breeding them commercially. I wasn't able to get more details or pricing, but this might be another alternative.

Dave, keep us informed on this source if you can. I've had two Yellows since 2007 and have recently thought about getting more. The current fish prices have made it unacceptable. I paid $50.00 each for the ones I have now and even that was a little hard to swallow at the time
