Ok my plan is to rebuild my tank and order tbs live rock in it (75g). My question is do I need to restart all from scratch as in drain water, scraPe walls, sterilize, new dsb, etc. I want minimal die off from tbs live rock and was thinking that if I kept the sand I have already, taKe out current live rock and it in tbs live rock will I be ok or will my situation turn disasterous? With keeping the sand I was hoping that it would cut down on the ammonia from live rock since it is established for a year already. Let me know somthing folks ...start from scratch or keep the sand?

Hmmm, why are you rebuilding? Has the tank been fallow for a while?... Was there any pest or disease issues previously..?

I had a severe ha and bryopsis outbreak due to me starting last year with tap water. Other than that everything is ok but i want to add more diversity with Tbs live rock as well. My current rock is very boupderish like and the tbs is a bit more reef situated.

if it were me personally I would start fresh as much as you could, I did something like what your talking about several years ago and even though my tank was able to keep everything living and even happy and growing I just could never seem to shake the hair algae and also a few other types of algae, it was a never ending battle it seemed like. Once one type of algae would go away something else would pop up and take its place with all the plucking, scraping, pulling, and chopping I really wish I would have just started fresh

Thanks for the input I was wondering how it would go in my situation and now I know. All I can see is ha and bryopsis but who knows whatelse is lurking waiting for a spot on the algae chain.
