Tank Repair

Not sure if I am doing this post correctly so here it goes.

I am repairing a 55 tank where the top frame is cracked and I have to remove it. I have had some ideas on how to replace it but wanted to know what your thoughts were.
My first thought is to find one from a broken tank and glue it to my tank, just not to sure if I can find one or how easy it would be. Then I thought about getting 3 - 3"x 13" strips of glass to glue on the ends and one in the middle to keep the front and back sides from bowing out. But of course I had to keep reading and found another opinion. 4 pieces of glass 2 - 2"x 13'' long and 2 - 2"x 47.5" long. These would be glued around the top opening to give the sides support and keep the sides from bowing. My Preference or what I am thinking about is getting 3 - 3"x 13" strips to glue on the ends and across the middle. What are your thoughts.

With the tank being glass I am not sure how successful you will be gluing anything to the glass. I think you have the right idea - sort of adding euro-bracing to the tank but I don't see it as being practical.

My first thought is why make the effort to repair a 55g tank? They are not that expensive new and newspaper classifieds list them on a regular basis.
