Tank running a little hot

I'm on day 2 of my cycle. I had my heater set to 75f. I looked at my tank this afternoon and it was at 82. I turned down my heater and set another thermostat on a shelf close to the tank to see what my room temp was. Room temp has been low 70s. Even with the heater turned down to 70 the tank is still at 81. What am I doing wrong? The salt I used gave a recommended temp of 75

That's on your 28 Cube, correct? What lights is it and was it on when the water heated up?

What type of heater is it? If it has analog controls they can be off by over 10 degrees. Try turning it down even lower.

My Nano Cube came with power compacts for stock and the water was always in the mid-80s during the day until I replaced the lights with LEDs. Now my temp is usually 78 - 79, sometimes up to 80.

Typically when this happens it means the heater broke. This happened to me before, my heater broke and the temps soared to 87 degrees.

If you have a fan that you can run across the water in DT or even the sump it will help it cool down with evaporative cooling. What kind of lighting do you have? Also, have you actually calibrated the heater to make sure it really is only 75 degrees? Some heaters can be off as high as 6 degrees depending on the brand or the heater could be going bad.

The lights have been off. The heater is a hydro theo. I'll try running the heater on low

I used Hydor Theo heaters before. They have always been reliable, but each one had its temperature controls way the hell off. I was talking about one of those when I mentioned that heaters can be off by over 10 degrees.

I have the JBJ 28g intermediate. Led lighting

Good to know. I'll have to play with the settings

IMO, I never trust the numbers on the heaters. I just set them to what a true thermometer says is the temp. Try it lower and see if that works. I also recommend and run on my system a second heater set a few degrees less than the main heater just in case the first one breaks.
