Tank Setup Advice

I currently have a 44 gallon corner tank that has 1 lone (GIGANTIC) Cichlid left in it. Once monstro passes I am working on convincing the Mrs to let me setup another tank ... but this time for a mantis (yes 44 gallons for 1 mantis).

I want this to be as low maint. as possible ...

I will be using crushed coral as a substrate with a few pieces of LR (not many), a skimmer - Super Skimmer 65 most likely, and a Fluval canister filter full of carbon. I am considering the addition of a Phosban Reactor as well.

How much flow should I put through this tank ... will the output of the Fluval and a MJ1200 (or 2) be enough?

A heater will be added to keep temps in the 78* range and water will be RO/DI and premix from the LFS (cheaper than doing it myself).

The stock hood has 2 flourescent strips that currently has a daylight and "actinic" bulb. This should be fine since I will not add coral correct?

Any other tips are appreciated ... good starter species (love peacocks)

You will be good with all of that. Peacocks are great starters, and are very interactive! The only thing that I would suggest is a dark area for them to create a burrow. PVC works well in this case, and just surround it with LR when they make their burrow inside!
