I got my son a nano tank. My question is will it help the cycling process if I use water from my established tank or is this not reccomended? Should I just use all new water and go through the cycling process?
Ken I would buy some of that stuff that helps the tank cycle Ive heard many good things about it. Now which kind I dont know maybe someone else will chime in.
I used BioSpira in my 34 and my 55 and never had a cycling problem at all. I would go with that for a quick fix. No adverse effects that I could report.
never had good luck with the bacteria in a bottle. prefer to do it hte old fashioned way. take an old pair of your wifes pantyhose. cut off one of the toes to make a little baggy. take some of your sand or substrate from the big tank and put it in the baggy. then just drop it in your new tank. the bacterial will spread that way and after a few weeks or so, remove the baggy and put the contents back in your large tank. this is a good way to seed a new tank from your old one should you do a new one with new substrate. i used this trick when switching from crushed coral to a more sandy substrate. worked like a charm.
