tank sizes for large angels

Multiple Angeles

Multiple Angeles

Thanks for all the effort in putting this information together. Great Job!!!

Also, any thoughts in keeping multiple angels together? Any possible combos?

Thanks again

Great job on the list!

That said, I have a few "objections".

I do not agree that the Bandit Angel requires a 180 gallon min., if this is so shouldn't the Goldflake require the same. Also, if you have ever kept a full grown Blue Line you would know that these are big fish and do a LOT of swimming. If a Bandit needs a 180, a blueline needs a 250 or larger. Bandits are not nearly as "swimmy" as bluelines.

I have personally kept all of these fish, so my thoughts are coming from my experience with these species. :)

I'm going to have a male / female pair of japanese swallowtails in a 125g 6ft reef. I won't have many other fish and I have tons of algae and sponge. Tank is approaching 1 year old and is well established. I believe the pair will be shipped in 2-3 weeks from bluezoo.

They'll be my show fish.

I would love to see pictures when they're settled in. :)

I appreciate your input. I agree my list is far from perfect. Just tried to put together a "general consensus"(if there is such a thing!) for people to refer to. I do not consider it definitive as there are mare variables that come into play when considering each fish.

I have not personally kept Bandits, and being that they are relatively rare and there isn't a ton of knowledge on them, I aired on the side of caution. Based on this input, I would change the information if I could. Drop it to 150?

I got rid of my Blueline before it got to full size. Also, I actually didn't realize I had the Bluelines at 125. I would put them at 150, but do you think it should be even higher?

I like your pics!

Thanks nonstopsfishies!

Obviously everyone has their own opinion on what is a suitable minimum tank size for each species. In my opinion the Bandits should be a min of 100 gallons and the Bluelines should be a min of 180.

Keep up the good work on the list, it is nice to have a one stop source for this type of information.

I do have some questions on the Chaetodontoplus Ballinae angel, very little info I was able to find on them.

so their entire range is in a protected area by a government?

assuming what if an oddball were to show up outside its protected range, still not able to be sold?

They are only endemic to Lord Howe Island and Ball's Pyramid, which are right next to each other. That area is part of New South Wales and the entire area is protected.

It is conceivable that one could make it's way out of this area, but highly unlikely. Even if one was somehow caught it would never make it to america, because it would probably sell for 100k in Asia.
