Tank & Stand in Living Room

For the first time, I moved the new stand and tank into the living room to see how it looked, well that's not the only reason. I'm going to be building a Calfo style overlow inside the tank and need to level the stand in place and mark exactly where I'll silicone in the glass. For water to go over the entire weir, it has to be on the same plane as the water. So I'm going to let this water / tank / stand squish the carpet and settle into it's spot. Then drain and shim the stand refill and make my marks. To bad the tank and stand have to come out after this step! It wasn't exactly light weight

I really like the 65talls. We have one sitting in my bedroom, too bad he's insisting on using it as a sump , othewise i'd be all over it.

Looks great!! nice stand!

Discdogge, that's actually a 150 (48x24x30). On the other side of the room I do actually have a 65 gal.

Soon it will be time to drill....very soon :worried:

Thats the 150, wow, the stand made it look small.

I'm preparing for our 180 to blow me away, lol.

A then I'll be saying, man, we need something bigger, LOL!!

I know what you mean!! In the picture it doesn't look that big. The stand is 60 x 34 to give me room for a top off resevoir behind the sump and plenty of storage next to the sump.

yep my 180 is too small. Its only been 5 months and I want a bigger tank. Dan do you get alot of light through that sliding door?

Not too bad, the eve from the house comes down pretty far and the sun shines in for a little while in the morning.

Hi Dan, Looks great, keep up the photos and keep us informed of your progress. Want to see the overflow setup once completed. And want to see it set up and overstocked someday soon.

Patrick

P.S. Did you make the stand? It looks good.

Thanks Pat, yes I did make the stand. There have been a lot of firsts in this project. First time making a stand, first time finishing it which I don't like how it turned out. Also first time drilling into a tank and first time working with acrylic. Just practicing for my next tank in a different house.

I'm not going to be making the doors, I'm going to order those.

I think the stand looks great, it reminds me of a 2 1/2 car garage. It will be so nice to have the extra storage. I still have to put the doors on my bowfront and finish the bar off the front of my big tank, which is a first for me as well. I know it is not near as easy as it looks! Carrie

grochmal,

take a look at this link and you'll get the idea. Basically you drill two holes towards the top of the back of the tank with a weir setup in the tank. The entire with of the tank serves as your overflow so that you skimming the thinnest area of the surface as possible.

The wife isn't real keen on moving anything in the living room especially that picture cause there's another one on the other side of the couch but oh well, she loves the idea of the bigger tank so she'll deal with it. :)

Nothing new to post today. I got the tank and stand back out of the living room. Drawing out where I want to drill the holes now. I will try to take some pics of that process.

Here's an update. Started drilling today but I ran out of daylight. Drilled about 30 minutes and got about halfway thru, smooth as silk.
