Tank stand modification

I'm thinking of taking a 48x24 stand and putting a 24" cube on it, using the other half as a shelf. Anyone ever try something like this? Would I just have to brace the middle of the stand to support that edge of the tank?

I would't just support the middle of the stand for the edge of the tank. I would also support that new middle support from the botton of the stand to the bottom of the new edge support, front and back. You can use 2"x2" for this.

I also would block the bottom of the stand, Were you put the supports.
