Tank stands

I am gauging interest to see who may be interested in a custom tank stand built out of wood for current tanks or future tanks. I do wood working and some custom cabinet building as a hobby. I will be building a few smaller tank stands to use as a show off book so people can see my work. I am going to be building a stand for a standard 10G tank, possibly a standard 20g tank and one for an aquapod or a biocube. i will post pictures to show progression from wood at the store to finished product.

Let me know if this interests you and what ideas you may want for your project and i can draw up some rough sketches.

I got the first one built. I will post pictures tomorrow when i get it sanded and ready for stain. It is built for a normal 10g tank and it is 36 inches tall.

Here is the 10g stand. It is real simple and basic. I can modify it for purposes of small shelves or storage of chemicals, foods, etc.

It looks like if someone fell into it it would collapse in on itself. Sorry. Looks nice but scary.

+1 But putting some oak veneer on the two skinny sides would help. Also, is the top beveled to keep the tank from sliding if bumped?

As a cabinetmaker by trade this looks very scary. You will need to cover at least the back with plywood for lateral support. Please re-think your stand design so no one gets hurt.

I will be adding x-bracing to the back and a shelf in the center. I am confused on how someone would get hurt on this stand but not any other stand? If someone falls into a 10g tank on any stand, it is going to hit the ground. I have successfully weight tested this stand to 250lbs without bracing. With bracing it will be more than fine.

The brad nails are in the bottom center cross bar only. The rest of it is doweled and glued. Please remember, I went with the wood for this one because it is a smaller tank that it is holding. Not designed for a big reef setup. 250lbs is enough for any 10g tank. Rest of the stands will be made different for larger tanks. This is just a cheap contemporary version for a 10g tank.

As I re-read this post it sounds if i am being defensive and upset. i don't mean to sound like that. I appreciate all the comments and ideas. A few of them are being acted on. Ill post updated pictures soon.

Ok so I modified the stand ny adding bracing to the back anda shelf in the center. I have a 10g frag tank on it right now. The pictures are in my 10g frag thread on here. However the design did not go over so well. So I am moving on to the next stand with the next design. it is going to be built in 1 of 2 ways. Either as It looks for 36"+ tanks or with the cabinet and the single row of shelves for a 20-24" tank. LMK what you think of this design. More pics to come when i start to build.
