Hi Everyone,
I am new to owning a reef aquarium and seem to be facing a strange issue. I think I was overfeeding my tank because the ph, nitrates, nitrites, etc were all out of wack. We have corrected this about 2 weeks ago however one of our fish (not sure the proper name for him) developed what I thought was popeye. I was told to purchase Melafix use that for 7 days and while using it I should remove the carbon portion of the filter. I did so on Sunday, it is now Thursday and my entire house smells so horrible it is no longer tolerable. Does the carbon mask the smell or is there something else wrong with my tank? I have noticed within the last 5 days or so a lot of red slime has formed on the sand and for some reason my grass which never expanded has grown incredibly. Could anyone tell me why that is? Also I have now read that if the eye isnt cloudy then it isnt popeye, is this true? Because his eye is not cloudy so now I dont know how to help him. And lastly, for the past month my normally very happy rose tip anemone has been shrinking down to the size a little larger than a quarter and then a few hours later is the size of my fist. He does this a few times a week and I dont know what else to do for him. I have a saddleback clown fish who is always in the anemone when it is large and I feed him 4 times a week with mysis shrimp. I really appreciate any help.
Oh and I dont know too much about my tank but it a little larger than 35 gallons, there is plenty of circulation, we do water changes about every 2 weeks, I just added an air pump/air stone (not sure if that is necessary), and we have an emperor 400 biowheel filter. I am not sure what other information I should provide.
Again thank you for any and all help.
