Tank Stocking... help?

Hello all! I would appreciate some assistance in selecting a stock for my still cycling tank. I want to solidify my selection so I know what fish to put in when. I have a 20 gallon long with a 10 gallon sump. This will be my first foray into saltwater, but I have kept freshwater (mainly medium planted Amazon tanks) for the last five years.

I undrstand all the fish I lwant will not be able to coexist in such a small tank, so I need some help figuring out how to best group my selection.

Tank setup: 20 gallon long with 10 gallon sump. Reef setup

Definite wants:
Long nose Hawkfish OR Flame Angel
Orange stripe prawn goby

Sorta wants:
Schooling fish? Blue/green Chromis preferred, maybe Cardinal fish or four stripe damsel?
Pair of clowns (not sure on breed)


I believe a solid setup would be a hawkfish, goby, and three chromis. I would like any and all opinions to help me make my selection!

I know nothing about the Flame Angel, but most people's goto for basic needs is liveaquaria. They say 70gal+ for that fish.

Longnose hawk is min 30 gal.

In a 20 gal you'd probably max out at about 4 fish. 3 would be safe. Maybe the goby and a pair of clowns? Cardinals are also recommended 30 gal.

Most of my research when I was (still am) deciding on stock, including here AND my LFS, is that blue/green chromis will kill each other off if they're in small groups.

Oh, liveaquaria has a nice filter feature where you can browse fish based on suggested tank size.

A 20 long MIGHT be ok for fish up to 30gal... just because it's longer and shallow and provides more real estate and place to swim.

In a 20G a pair of Clowns "Nemo" Lawnmower Blenny, cleaner shrimp and a snail or two??
